Pig Valley
The weather seemed just right today to make a short trip to one of the valleys we often use on our trip No. 3. So I asked my colleagues Marius and Daniel to join me on an inspection trip to see the access through the valley called The Pig’s Valley, close to the village of Rastolita. This valley is the only access road to one of the most beautiful plateaus that takes you all the way to Lake Colibita!
It starts from the outskirts of Rastolita, it crosses a gypsy neighborhood, then it goes into a very nice beech forest. The dirt road disappears after the first 4 km and the only access is through the stream called the Pig’s Valley for another 2 km until it reaches the pastures.
As much as we had been waiting for this trip, we had a big surprise when we got off the car: the snow was at least 40 cm high, even if only at 650 m of altitude and had we known how big it was going to be higher on the mountain, we would not have dared continue! When we arrived up to 1100 m altitude the snow was 1 m high and there were very few bear tracks – which is a sign that they had been more aware of the weather forecast and didn’t leave the comfort of their den : )
It was a difficult experience but in the end it was worth it, as we had discovered that there weren’t any logs across our usual route or other obstacles to inconvenience us for our following riding season!
