Wolf attack on donkey

This week we have received a message from a forest ranger about one of our young donkeys being attacked by a wolf! A sheep dog tried to save him from the wolf’s jaws, but unfortunately his wounds were too deep…
I immediately phoned our vet Nelu Antal and we rushed up to see if we can save him, although his deep wounds were quite advanced now. However, we put him in our truck with his mom and transported them to our centre for further medical attention.
So far we have lost 2 donkey fowls and their father to wolves this year. We usually send our donkeys out to the pastures with the local shepherds and their flocks, where they spend the entire summer. The problem is that the shepherds don’t put them in the shelters over the night, letting them loose outside together with the cows and the horses.
Wolves usually attack smaller prey. As horse fowls are protected by their much larger mothers, the only victims left are the young and adult donkey.
We were promised by the shepherds that our donkeys would be put into shelters during the night from now on, but we cannot be sure if we can trust their word…

the wolves are not at fault here... if the sheaperds whould do as there told then the dokey's would most likely been harmed and going about with sheepdogs is a good idea. Wolves are natural scared of anything asoiated with humans and the majority of the time a Bigger dog will keep the a a distance.

When you go swiming in the Ocean with sharks and you get bit, whos at fault?

it is sad, but there should have been more precautions taken, especially if wolves have gone after them before. Also, dog can only help to some extent.
